The Yeagle Trail Marathon was started by Aubrey Hogan in an effort to honor Larry Yeagle. Mr. Yeagle served as Aubrey's running mentor early in his career when Aubrey first started to run. During these years while Aubrey was in junior high, Mr. Yeagle took him to Lincoln Parish Park outside of Ruston, Louisiana, each Friday afternoon after school in order to run the trails there. Having wanted to organize a race of some kind for several years, Aubrey realized that he could both plan this event and honor Mr. Yeagle's commitment at the same time. Says Aubrey, "It was the only way I knew how say thank you to an old short man who took time to show he really cared about an incredibly awkward junior high kid."
The inaugural race was run on March 8, 2008 at Lincoln Parish Park. Brian Myers, with a time of 3:55.51, was the winner of the first annual event.
The 2009 Larry Yeagle Trail Marathon was held on March 14, 2009. Official results are now available online. Congratulations to all of those you participated in the event and thank you to all of those individuals who helped make this year's event a success.
